Double Occasions

1 year 2 months 1 week 6 days old

2 occasions had just gone past; Christmas and our 2nd Wedding Anniversary. How did we celebrated 2009 Christmas? Nothing much has been done. Daddy gave Jaiden a Manchester United mini soccer ball meanwhile mummy gave him a snowman rattle as his Christmas gift. We stayed home watching 富贵们 until late afternoon, then cooked porridge for Jaiden at 5:15pm. After feeding Jaiden, we went to my SIL’s house as Benjamin (her eldest son) was celebrating his 14 years old birthday at their home. As usual, makan makan then cake session. We left her place at a little past 9pm and headed straight home.

We attended another Christmas Party at Pik Yin’s house at Sungai Long. The main purpose for us joining them is to let Jaiden mix with more kids there. Secondly, Pik Yin SMSed me to extend her invitation, so we feel “mm hou yi si” to reject her. Anyway, Jaiden had a great time playing with the kids there. Even though he cried loudly for a couple of times, in the end he enjoyed after familiarized with the environment there.

On the 28th December, we sent Jaiden to Ngo Jeh as we planned to celebrate our anniversary without Jaiden this time. Hahaha… no la… not that we don’t want Jaiden to come with us, but Jaiden is too young to watch movie with us in a cinema. Furthermore, the movie that we watched (Avatar) lasted for 2 hours 40 minutes. I’m sure he will scream in the cinema and in the end, we might just get ditched by the person-in-charge :P OK back to our itinerary of that day. We reached One Utama at about 11:15am. The first thing we did was to purchase Avatar movie ticket at TGV. Yay!!! We’re going to watch 2:20pm show. We had our brunch at TGIF.

After meal, we shopped around for some CNY clothings and present for my niece’s birthday. I got myself a pair of sandals (for work purpose), 1 shoulder bag, 1 cap and 1 polo-tee meanwhile hubby bought himself 3 tees. We rushed to the cinema as we were getting really late for the show. Luckily the show was yet to start. We were given (loaned to be exact) a pair of 3D spectacles as the Avatar that we’re going to watch is a 3D version. Overall, the movie is good (I’m amazed by the 3D effect).

We continued our shopping spree after the movie, but we did not get to buy anything. We left at 6:30pm to Sri Petaling to fetch Jaiden. We headed to Ah Wet at Yulek for our Thai dinner. The foods there were simply fantastic!!!

A Trip to Cameron Highland

1 year 2 months 6 days

It’s year end. Like other families, we planned for a short family trip and this would be Jaiden’s 1st trip! We have decided to go to Cameron Highlands on the 19th and back on the 20th December. This is also to celebrate daddy mummy 2nd year ROM Anniversary. We booked De La Ferns hotel from the internet to enjoy a cheaper internet rate. It costs us around RM230 per night stay in a Deluxe King room.

We started packing only on the night before we depart. Ya, what a last minute packing ya… We put Jaiden to bed after we have packed things needed in the room to avoid waking up Jaiden in the middle of his sleep. Hence, he slept at 11+pm that night (he usually sleeps at about 9+pm on normal days).

The next day, daddy and mummy woke up at 7:15am. Mummy had many tasks lining up, i.e.: prepare Jaiden’s porridge to be brought to Cameron for his dinner, prepare his breakfast, making sure all the necessities are packed, meanwhile daddy needs to bath Jaiden and feed him breakfast. We left home at about 9:45am. We went to a nearby coffee shop for our breakfast before begin our journey.

We took the Simpang Pulai exit from the North South highway as this was recommended by hubby’s friend as well as my brother-in-law. Night mare started when we entered Cameron. Not long after we saw the Selamat Datang Ke Cameron Highland signage, traffic started to crawl. It took us about 20 minutes (rough estimation) to reach Equatorial Hotel. Jam jam jam…. From EQ, it took us more than 2 hours to reach De La Ferns hotel which is located between Tanah Rata and Brinchang. Jaiden was getting very annoyed and agitated after sitting in the car seat for more than 4 hours. I carried him out of the car seat and tried to console him, fed him milk, played with him, etc… At last, we reached De La Ferns hotel at about 4:20pm. Even though Jaiden was getting a little grumpy in the car, once we brought him to the hotel lobby, he was so happy and exploring with a big smile (while daddy is doing the check in).

Jaiden happily exploring the hotel lobby

We went to our room (302) and Jaiden was so happy to see the room. Walked non stop, exploring the cupboard, bed, table, bathroom and every single corner in the room. After a while, we showered Jaiden and went to OK Tuck for steamboat dinner. We proceed to the night market to buy some vege and fruits. Daddy has to carry Jaiden ~ ended up daddy’s hand half paralyze as Jaiden should weigh approximately 11kg by now. Mummy not carrying anything? Of course not. Mummy has to carry things we bought from the night market. It was not light neither ya…

After the tiring stroll, we went back to the hotel and fed Jaiden before putting him to bed at 10+pm. Luckily Jaiden fell asleep not long after we switched off all the lights and turned on his night time music from my walkman phone.

Jaiden exploring the room

We woke up at 8am the next morning getting ready for breakfast in the hotel coffee house. We checked out the hotel at about 11am and we went to the morning market to buy more vege and fruits. The last stop was at the tea plantation to snap a few picture before we head to Ipoh for our brunch. We reached Ipoh at about 2+pm and we had the famous Ipoh Chicken rice with taugeh in Ipoh town. We left Ipoh at 3+pm and reached home at 8+pm.

Moral learnt from this trip:
Never ever go to Cameron Highlands during long weekend or school holiday. Our trip falls on a long weekend (Friday was a holiday), furthermore it’s school holiday! That’s why we were stucked in the jam for more than 2 hours. According to a Malay lady that I chatted with at the tea plantation spot, she was stucked in the jam for more than 4 hours! So friends, plan your trip well ;-)

Trip to Thean Hou Temple

1 year 1 month 1 week 5 days

We went to Thean Hou Temple last Sunday for some prayers in the morning. Then, we attended our colleague's baby boy's fullmoon lunch party at USJ. Really nothing much story to tell, but some photos to share.

Visit to the Paed

1 year 1 month 1 week 2 days

We brought Jaiden for his Chicken Pox injection last night. He was weighing 10.8kg. The paed did not measure his height and head circumference as this was just measured a month ago. This jab made Jaiden cried out loud, one of the longest cry he had after being jabbed.

We asked Dr. Koe why does Jaiden develops rashes around his mouth whenever we feed him food with more "taste". She asked us to monitor and looking at the rashes he had around his mouth last night, she said it doesn't matter. Most likely he has skin sensitivity since mummy has sensitive skin too. We also checked with Dr. Koe why Jaiden coughs every morning after he woke up from his beauty sleep. Dr. Koe suspects that it could be due to his weak lung. He prescribed him a medication to strengthen his lung. Hope this medicine really helps.

The Dancing Baby

Jaiden is dancing! Ya... Jaiden starts dancing when he listens to his favorite songs. He would dance once the TV plays Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Insey Winsey Spider during his meal time (we usually place him infront of the TV, showing him the "My Baby Can Talk" CD). He would also dance in the car when he is in his car seat listening to a few of his favorite songs such as Horsey Horsey Don't You Stop, Six Little Ducks That I Once Knew, Ten Green Bottles, etc... How did he dance? Hahaha... As simple as moving both his hands up, twisting his body a little bit from left to right. Ya, it's that simple, but enough to keep his daddy & mummy entertained.

Some sentimental photos :-)

Lucky Jaiden

Jaiden is such a lucky boy. Lucky in the sense that daddy & mummy found him a very good babysitter, Ngo Jeh. Ngo Jeh seeing Jaiden down with flu for 10 days (today 11th days), she make him bird nest soup yesterday! Ya... Jaiden had bird nest soup yesterday!! (Mummy hasn't been drinking bird nest soup for God knows how many years!!). Ngo Jeh said seeing Jaiden sick for so many days, she decided to give him something more "yun". She has been feeding him Scoot Emulsion, vitamin C, "5 guk" rice, "10 guk" rice (which I've never heard of it), so she don't understand why is he not recovering yet. All those "5 or 10 guk" rice are full of nutrients. Now you know why I say Jaiden is a lucky baby ;-) Oh by the way, Jaiden will be having another round of bird nest soup today as well.

Some catch-up on Jaiden's new vocabulary: -
Daaa daaaa: Joy Joy (our pet)
Eeee: Egg
Dum: Drum

Daddy is sick

Virus dear virus... Why don't you want to leave our family yet? Ya... after Jaiden and mummy down with flu (still not recovered till now), daddy's turn to fall sick now. Daddy was sick on Sunday and he is on MC today. Praying hard that the flu bug will leave our family soon... Poor Jaiden has been suffering from flu for 10 days already. Could it be the parents' fault? We did not bring Jaiden to see the paed because we do not want him to be so dependent on the medication. We hope his body will fight with the virus, hence boost up his immune system and antibody.

Jaiden has been enjoying his nice porridge over the weekend. Mummy tested, and agreed that it's yummy!!! Mummy will do the same porridge for the family soon ;-)

Walk unaided

Jaiden can now walk unaided!! Last couple of days, he tried hard to get up from a sitting/ kneeling position to a standing position. He was trying that even at night, when I tried to tuck him to sleep! At last, he is able to do so now. He can even stand from a sitting position. This morning, before we left home for work, he went into the small room where we kept his electronic lantern. He took the lantern and I helped to walk him out of the room and get him seated on the floor near the dining table. While I was getting ready to put things into the car, I saw him walking unaided, one hand holding on to the electronic lantern! I was amazed at how he progresses.

Din't manage to take a photo of him walking with his lantern. Will have to put the camera at a more accessible place next time.

This is a photo of him walking like a drunken master holding a remote control.

Mummy is sick

Never cross my mind to blog about me falling sick. It was hubby's idea to blog it (kind of domino effect?) since the previous blog was "Jaiden is sick". Jaiden is yet to recover, there comes another sick people at home. Daddy, be strong ya!!

I am down with flu as well (virus from Jaiden most likely). Took MC yesterday and rested at home. After sending hubby to work and Jaiden to Ngo Jeh, I went to Poliklinik Pertama to see doctor. Then, went home and took medication and slept at about 10:30am. Until what time? Hehehe... this lazy and sick mummy slept until 3:00pm, still want to continue... but forced myself up to refresh a bit, went online and eat some bread for the 4:00pm medication. Still FB-ing until 4:30pm, took a quick shower and left home at 5:00pm to fetch hubby from work and Jaiden from Ngo Jeh.

I'm at work today, but constantly went to the ladies to make wantan as my nose is basically blocked the whole day. Maybe left with 1/6 section (in the nostril) for me to breath. Not a good idea to go to work... should have taken 2 days MC...

Totally out of scope... (non-Jaiden related). But here goes some photos of Jaiden taken with his Police car.

Jaiden is sick

Sigh... Something that is unavoidable. Jaiden is down with flu starting last Saturday. This makes him more cranky as compared to normal days. Where did he gets the virus from? The other kid that Ngo Jeh is taking care of la.... This boy is having flu last week. Despite how Ngo Jeh asked him not to go near Jaiden, he will go near Jaiden, kiss him, play with him, etc... Me and hubby have already predicted that Jaiden will catch flu soon.

We gave Jaiden the flu medication prescribed by paed. (from the last round he had flu) at night. Nevertheless, he had difficulty breathing and he woke up a few times in the middle of the night. Neither hug, carry nor swing can tame him down. We fed him some warm water and soon after that he fall asleep. The next day, I decided not to give him the flu medication anymore as too much "western" medication will make him very "yeok". I gave him 1/2 of "bao ying dan" in the morning after his breakfast. Jaiden had difficulty to take his morning nap as well. He only managed to sleep for an hour. I gave him the other 1/2 of "bao ying dan" at night before he go to sleep. At last, I don't see any difficulty of him breathing when I tuck him to sleep then.

Measurement & skills on the 16th Oct

Never thought of blog this out until I read my friend's blog - stating the measurement of her son on his 1st birthday. Here comes Jaiden's: -

5:30pm - 6:00pm : Porridge
9:30pm - 10:00pm : 7oz milk

Communication:
- Mmm Ma = mummy (i think)
- Ba ba ba ba = daddy
- Nnnaahhh (while pointing his finger to something) = I want that
- Ish = fish

Skills:
- Bye2
- Flying kiss
- Dim chung chung
- Gong xi gong xi
- How old are you? He will response by lifting his index finger to show he is 1 year old
- Kiss daddy/ mummy
- Lift both his hands up when daddy/ mummy says "carry"
- Expert in crawling
- Stand without support for at most 3-5 seconds
- Walk with help
- Drinking water from straw
- Can I have that please? Then he will pass you whatever he is holding.
- Can you please help me to put this into the pouch? He will then put whatever he is holding or I am pointing at into the pouch.
- Cannot!!! He will then stop whatever he is doing at that point of time, look at me, and sometimes he will continue doing the same thing or he will crawl to me. Depends on his mood...
- Come. Again depends on his mood. He will crawl towards us or he will ignore us and do whatever is doing at that time.

Milk Formula

Before Jaiden reaches 1 year old, we fed him with Nestle NAN HA 1 milk formula as Dr. Koe said he has minor allergy to the normal cow's milk. Since this milk has gone through a special way of processing it's protein, so it's suitable for babies with minor allergy. However, Jaiden does not like this milk formula all along because it tastes a bit bitter. No choice... he has to bear with it since this milk suits him best at that moment.

We switched him to Pediasure Complete on the day he reached 1 year old. He likes it a lot!!! That was the 1st ever time where he finished 7oz of milk by himself (ya.. I mean, he hold the bottle by himself and finished the milk in it). Of course, we are very happy that he likes this milk so much. However, Ngo Jeh said he eats a lot too during day time. Hence, his tummy is getting bigger and bigger, and face became chubbier now. Afraid that he might turn into a fat boy, we have decided to switch him to Mamil Gold Step 3. We started him on Mamil Gold Step 3 on 2nd November. He shows signs of disliking the milk... sigh....

Finally, this morning he had a big tight slap from mummy at his thigh. He doesn't want to finish his milk and making a LOT of FUSS!!! This made mummy really angry, and gave him one tight slap on his thigh. He cried out sooo loudly. No matter how we manja him, how we play with him, he still doesn't want to drink the left over milk. He left 2.5oz out of 5oz okay... it's half of his consumption. Ended up, he won!!! I think he knew that daddy & mummy is angry at him, hence he did not make much noise in the car (on the way to Ngo Jeh's house).

Shall we stop feeding him in the morning? This kind of incident really spoils my mood of the day!

Feverish due to teething

Jaiden's temperature is going up and down since yesterday morning. According to the paediatrician, as long as the reading shows below 37.5C, then Jaiden is not having fever. For Jaiden, the reading is ranging from 36.9C - 37.4C. This is consider high for him as his normal temperature is between 36.4C - 36.9C. Since Jaiden is in his teething stage now (so far he has only 2 developing teeth - bottom center), it's not a surprise that his temperature fluctuates a bit. We can also see his 2 front teeth coming out. Hopefully he is fine and not going through much discomforts.

A note to remember :-)
Jaiden's 1st tooth is visible at his 11th months. From the front view, it would be the bottom center, towards the right ;-)

Jaiden feeds mummy

21st October 2009 marks a memorable day for mummy. Jaiden fed mummy his Baby Bite crackers. Mummy feels sooooo sweet.

It’s normal for Jaiden to make noise when we fetch him from Ngo Jeh’s house in the evening. What more when we want to place him on his car seat, he will complain and complain and complain, keep moving and it’s very difficult for us to fasten his seat belt. To tame him, we will “bribe” him with the Baby Bite crackers. Ya…. we know we shouldn’t do this (not a good teaching), but any other recommendations? Mummy who is sitting next to Jaiden will break the cracker into smaller pieces before passing it to Jaiden. To my surprise, Jaiden holds the piece of cracker and put it near to mummy’s mouth. Mummy said “No, Jaiden. This is for you… You can have it”. I push his hand towards his own mouth, and ya… he ate it. Daddy then told me, if Jaiden wants to give me, I should just eat it. Hmmmm… true also ya… let Jaiden show his gratefulness to mummy. I pass Jaiden another small piece and I asked Jaiden to give mummy. He then feed mummy with his own hand!!! I am so touched (just a small piece of cracker is enough to make mummy so touched hahaha). Oh by the way, it’s very sweet too when we ask Jaiden to “kiss mummy”, and he really did it!

Happy Birthday Jaiden

Finally... Jaiden has reached his 1st year milestone. There are a lot of changes as compared to 365 days ago. From a little infant who only knows how to cry has turned into a little toddler who can now do so many things such as crawling, yelling, waving, flying kiss, shake hand, etc etc…

A little diary on how Jaiden’s 1st birthday was celebrated.

7:05am : Mummy woke Jaiden up as we need to get ready to go to Dr. Bux clinic for mummy’s check-up.

8:20am : Reached Dr. Bux clinic. Wow… So many patients… We need to be really patience to wait for our turn. Jaiden knowing he has turned into a toddler today being very happy exploring the clinic and making so much cutie faces. He became the central of attraction to those mummies & daddies-to-be in the clinic.

9:20am : Left Dr. Bux clinic.

9:40am : Reached Jalan Imbi market for breakfast. Daddy & mummy had Hainan coffee (the very famous coffee served in this market) and wantan mee while Jaiden had his Banana cereal + brown rice as his breakfast.

10:15am : Bought flowers for prayer in the market.

10:35am : Reached Pudu market. Jaiden is sleeping in the car while mummy went to the market to shop for things for prayer in the evening. Something sounded really funny to the experienced housewives… Ah Po asked her to buy “sang choy”. She bought “bo lei sang choy” instead of the normal “sang choy” used for prayers. Mummy don’t find this funny, but she got a bit embarrassed when people from Yulek market laughed at her. Hahaha…

11:40am : Reached Yulek market to buy “sang choy” and fruits.

12:00pm : Reached Ah Po's house to send her the items for prayers in the evening.

12:20pm : Reached Pusat Jagaan Ikhlas Bakti to visit Po Po. Met Dai Yi and Su Rei Jeh Jeh there, and later Gung Gung came too.

1:00pm : Reached home finally…… Jaiden of course crawl around the house and play with his toys.

3:30pm : Daddy finally managed to make Jaiden sleep. He has to take a longer nap because tonight will be a late night for him.

5:10pm : Daddy woke Jaiden up.

5:30pm : Daddy fed Jaiden with dried scallop pork porridge while mummy started to get ready.

6:05pm : Left house to Uncle Chew’s house (diagonally opposite neighbour) to collect Jaiden’s birthday cake.

6:30pm : Reached Ah Po’s house and immediately start the prayers.

7:20pm : Left for Tai Thong Restaurant at Cheras Plaza for dinner with family members.

9:30pm : Left Tai Thong Restaurant.

10: 15pm : Reach home finally…. Open his birthday gifts.

10:50pm : Jaiden choose his items from the tray. Items on the tray are pen, ring, money, calculator and a ruler. Refer to the photos below for the items he has chosen.

Kiasu-ness of today's parents...

More and more parents are bringing their babies/ kids for studio photo shots. Is this today's trend? Or is this purely kiasuism that we are talking about? :-) When I saw my friend posted his baby's photo on his FB account, I asked my husband "Shall we?". Of course, after browsing my friend's photos, he agreed to bring Jaiden to the same studio since the packages that they offer is quite reasonable.

Jaiden had his studio photo session on the 27th September 2009 from 2:00pm till 3:30pm. It could be longer if Jaiden can be more co-operative. Anyway, we can't blame him for being so agitated because he had a fall during the photo shooting session. He was playing happily riding a "scooter" at first. We asked him to stand for some posing. Since he still can't stand properly without aid (of course he can't walk without aid too), he had a slip together with the "scooter". Daddy who was standing at the back of course tried to rescue Jaiden, but daddy slipped too! Daddy kicked at the "scooter" and it hits Jaiden for a 2nd time (after Jaiden felt with his face facing the ground). What next??? Jaiden cried non-stop! His nose was hurt and bleed a little. We feel sooooo sad for bringing Jaiden for this photo shooting session and hence hurts him.

This is the "scooter"... photo taken before the fall.

Luckily we managed to tame Jaiden and photo session continues... I've posted all the photos we've chosen in my FB account. Below are some of the photos I love the most...

Babysitting Jaiden and EL consecutively

What a luck...

The aunty that babysits Jaiden fall sick. Not only her, but the whole family. All the family members experienced vomit and diarrhoea at the same time. The 2 other kids that she took care of experienced the same thing too. Not only that.... the whole family of these 2 kids also having the same sickness! Some of them were hospitalized. Yes, it is that serious!

We sent Jaiden to Ngo Jeh on last Wednesday (after the Raya holiday). When we reached her house, her husband came out to receive Jaiden as always. Uncle told us about the 2 kids' family's sickness. The elder brother (Ivan: 2 years +) were hospitalized due to dehydration. My husband was very worried, and decided to take EL and bring Jaiden home. He babysat Jaiden on Wednesday, me babysat him on Thursday. Since both of us are short of annual leave count, we took half day each to take care of Jaiden. On Friday evening, I called up Ngo Jeh to see if they have recovered. Ngo Jeh told me that she has recovered, but uncle is still quite weak as he has very high blood pressure. Since we are unsure how did this “disease” being transmitted, we have decided to get help from my sister for the next couple of days. We “migrated” to my sister’s house at Sg. Long on Sunday night. Since Jaiden has to adopt to new environment and new “babysitter” (my sister), I took another day off to accompany him meanwhile hoping that he will get himself familiarized to my sister and her house. It was quite tough for Jaiden on Monday. Whenever he sees me, he cried badly and showed his pity looking face to me – as if mummy is going to abandon him. No choice… the next day, me and hubby went to work. Luckily, Jaiden behaved on Tuesday!!! My sister was tired looking after him, but her daughter is very happy with Jaiden around. She helped her mother to take care of Jaiden. She is really a good helper.

However… my sister told me today that Jaiden began to show his true colours. He was quite agitated today. We suspect it could be due to 2 reasons: -

1) he gets used to the new environment and my sister, hence he become less reserve.
2) He was frightened by an old lady yesterday evening when sis brought him out to the nearby park. According to sis, this old lady looks quite scary – even my niece said she looks “hung bou”! This has led to Jaiden’s agitation last night as well as today. I really wonder how horrible does this old lady looks like….

My sister is going to surrender soon. Probably we have to send Jaiden back to Ngo Jeh tomorrow. Let see how it goes…

Bad luck comes with a consolation prize

Bad luck hits us on the 28th August 2009. Hubby met with an accident when he was on the way to meet a friend at about 7:45pm. Me and Jaiden was at home, suddenly received a call from hubby. He asked me to help to phone up the friend that he is suppose to meet up with, and at the same time informed me that he met with an accident. His voice was trembling, and he hung up the call very fast. I was so worried after that. I do not want to record the details of this bad thing here in my blog, hopefully we could forget this incident one day. Anyway, my hubby is not hurt, but the car is quite badly damaged. The front part (bonet, "sarong", skirting) was badly damaged. Estimated repair fee may be at least RM4-5k. No choice, we have to claim insurance..
Following the unlucky incident, I received a letter a day after from Today Publishing. Jaiden has won a consolation prize as "Star of Pureen" in Parenthood magazine August 2009 issue. We were extremely excited, and went to scout for this magazine. Too bad, August 2009 issue cannot be found anymore. It's already end of August now, September issue is already out. Sigh... Luckily I still keep the record on which photo I had submitted for this contest.

Here presenting "Star of Pureen"
